I really need your suggestions or inputs... please help

I am an US Citizen. My wife is planning to apply for US citizenship. In the last 6 years, she was out-of-the country once this year for about 7 1/2 months.

My questions to you are:

1. Should I mention/highlight the overstay in the covering letter along with a reason? Or Does it can be explained during the interview? or Is it enough to explain only if asked?

2. Also Should I include all the supporting documents (such as Tax Transcripts for the past 3 years and medical letter fromIndian Doctor) along with the N-400 application? or Should I submit the documents during the interview? or Is it enough to present only if asked?

Please give your thoughts and inputs.

1. N-400 has the section for travel dates. Just mention it over there.
