  • When to apply

I got my green card in Aug 2002. I heard that I could apply for citizenship 90-180 days earlier than the required 5 years. Is this true? If so will my application be processed when I apply or will it be processed only after 5 years(Aug 2007)
    Appreciate helpful information.

You can Apply 90 days before

You can apply for citizenship 90 days before you reach your 5th year of receiving green card. Your application will start processing immediately.
I would recommend applying 88 or 87 days before 5 years.

I applied 88 days before, and have got my finger printing done already, and still a month to go for my 5th anniversary of getting green card. Good Luck.
