    hello
    i plan to send my one year child who is a citizen with my parents who are visiting me here. i want to know what the formalities are. she has a PIO CARD. i heard about having to send a permission letter...i need the details. any information will be greatly appreciated. i plan to keep her there atleast for a year.

    Yes, you will have to provide some documentation that your child can travel with your parents. This is a safeguard against parental (grandparental?) abduction. Essentially to say that you are willingly letting your child to accompany them. This letter will have to be signed by both the parents. They may ask for this letter before enplaning.

    When in India, since the child is going to stay there for over 180 days, do not forget to get a registration with the appropriate police authorities. This is required for PIO holders but not for OCI folks.
