  • Question on filing N-400 application 90 days before meeting the 5 years requirement

I am a lawful Permanent Resident of US since April 19, 2002. I was out of US for a tolal of 77 days on five different short trips to India, Canada and Japan. I will be eligiable to apply for citizenship on April 19 2007. My question is may I apply 90 days before meeting the five years continuous residence requirement since I was out of country for 77 days on different trips? And if answer is yes, then should I apply on January 19 or 20, 2007? I would appreciate it if you could please let me know.
    Thank you.

Yes, you can apply 90 days before. It doesn't matter whether you send your application on Jan 19th or 20th. The receipt date is going to be the date on which USCIS receives your application. Send in your application so that USCIS receives the application after Jan 20th.

    Good Luck

I sent in my N-400 on January 18 But did not get any receipt yet

I have sent my N-400 application to Vermont Center on January 18 and they supposed to receive it by last Monday (definitely). Application fee was paid by a Cashier's Check. But I did not receive any receipt until today (Monday, January 29). Does anybody know why? Does anybody know how many days it takes to get the receipt? I am little bit of concern about this. Please let me know if you have the answer.
      Regards,
