I had my Citizenship interview at Newark on Feb 28th. The interview was scheduled for 8.20 a.m. They allowed us to get into the building at 8.00 a.m. Once on the 15th floor, I placed my appointment letter in a tray and sat down to be called. After 15 mins wait, I was called and followed the Interview Officer into his office. The first thing I did was swear under oath, then I was asked to take a sit. The gentleman asked for my greencard and passport (I guess to confirm I haven’t been out of the country for more that 6 months in the last 5 years). Then he quickly went over my form, basically asked me same questions on the form. Then came the test, he asked me 10 questions, I got all correct, then was asked to write a simple sentence.
Throughout the interview process the man was very polite. After the interview which lasted 10 mins, he gave me a piece of paper which indicated that I have been recommended for Citizenship, and advised me to come back for the Oath Ceremony at 11a.m. The man congratulated me and advised me that there is a cafetaria on the 2nd flr and to comback to the 15th floor before 11a.m for the ceremony. That was it. The whole process could not be smoother.
Just before 11, I came back up and waited. The ceremony did not take place until about 1.45 p.m ! It was a long wait. Everybody (about 75 people) that was scheduled for 11.00 or 11.30 Oath ceremony was walked into a room. A lady performed the oath ceremony, and we all became citizens. It was truly a *****al moment.
I like to thank the people who created this forum and all contributors. Throughout my experience over the last 10 years with INS this place has kept me sane. I wish everyone good luck.
