  • Lost green card 2wks before interview- Now what???

I'm scheduled for my interview in California in two weeks and my green card is lost or stolen. I last saw/used it 15 days ago to enter the US after a trip home. I just noticed it was missing today when I was getting my documents ready for the interview. What do I do now? (

I'm going to file a police report today and take it with me to the interview. I also have my receipt from when I first received the card, and there was a copy of the card in my original application. Will these be enough, or will they have me apply for a replacement card before I can get my citizenship? I also have non-refundable tickets and hotel bookings for a trip at the end of May. Would it be possible for me to get a travel document before then if I'm rejected at my interview and can't get a new green card in time?

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Apply for a duplicate greencard and hopefully get the receipt notice before your interview. Take the citizenship interview and tell them your problem and show them the receipt notice that you have applied for a duplicate greencard. They cant reject citizenship based on the reason that you lost your GC since you have the receipt showing that you applied for a duplicate one, but they may call you back for second time (with a interview status 'Continued') just to verify that you got your greencard. You may also want to call customer service just to verify. They are very helpful.

3 interview status - Granted, Continued, denied.

Thank you very much for your reply. My GC was recovered today at the airport immigration office!! I know I'm very lucky.

For anyone that is in similar situation, I called Customer Service before the card was recovered and was transferred to an immigration officer for more info. He told me to file a police report and take it to the interview, and whether or not I need to apply for a new GC would be determined at the time of my interview. Hope noone else find themselves in this situation though.
