Do I need to renew my Green card before applying for Citizenship

I have an old greencard that was issued in May 1982 - and I have been resident in US Since then.

My question is :

(a) Do I need to apply for the new green card before I can apply for Citizenship ?

(b) While I wait for the Citizenship - will I have problems if I use the old green card to exit and re-enter the US ? I mean is it still a valid re-entry permit ?

your best option. Call the 800 number for USCIS and ask them. Number is listed on thier website. If you live close to a local USCIS office, make an infopass and ask them personally. Dont rely on posts for critical information.
