  • Citizenship for legal resident with illegal boyfriend (father of child)

    Hi,

I have a permenant resident card. I came here in August 2003. I intend to apply for citizenship in August 2008. My boyfriend is an illegal immigrant. We have a child together. I notice that on the application for citizenship you have to give details about your children.

Is it likely that I will be asked about my child's father in an immigration interview?

What I'm worried about is that they will ask, I'll tell the truth, and he may be deported. I presume at best I wouldn't get citizenship.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Been asked about their kids?

I have been law abiding and tax-paying.

    Thanks.

There are 12 million illegals living in the US. Unless your boyfriend has a rap sheet he will not be removed. What ever you do tell the truth to INS - never lie, you could be permanently barred from citizenhip if you lie.

There is no question - I will tell the truth if asked, but I'm wondering if anyone else has been asked about their children's father from info no the application form.

Also were you saying its unlikely he'll be deported even when I tell them, or just that its unlikely on a day to day basis that it will happen.

      Thanks
