Hi there, I got my GC through my ex. Which I divorced before the 5 yrs due to Domestic Violence. Do I still have to wait for my 5 yrs to apply for citizenship?

Yes you do have to wait.

Its 5 yrs from the time you got your first Green card.

Just relax, time goes very first if you are busy.

Well I can finally become one in July of '08. So I was told that I can start filling paperwork in April. I was just hoping there would be a way I could go around it.

The only shortcut would be if you are still married and been living with your us spouse for 3 years, then that would get you eligible earlier. ha ha

You can file 90 days prior to your 5 yrs period. Just a reminder, when counting those 90 days some people have filed a day or 2 earlier and then they start freaking out.

I would give it a week to be sure I am on the 90 day period. Hope that makes sense.

yup, so you can apply on the 5yr GC eligibility rather than the 3 year marriage to citizen
