  • N-400 without supporting documents

The N400 instructions gave me wrong impression that I filed N-400 along with a check without green card copy or even photos. It was mailed on 07/23/2007 to California service center, the check was cashed on 08/01/2007. I learned that the case should be rejected without photo. Is my money gone or what, what should I do next? Thank you very much for any help!

I have seen applications without green card copy having been returned. If your check is encashed, in all likelyhood you will receive a Notice of Action 'with exception'. I would suggest NOT sending anything now until you get your Receipt number and a file is created. Thousands of files come in each day and these are handled by different agencies. By sending something before a file is created will be a waste of your time and only complicate matters more. Just sit and wait.

      Nearmsp and Knowledgeable,

Thanks for quick helps. Both of you gave good reasons for actions and
no actions. I am going to take no actions and will keep this thread updated.

If they deny my application, I will try to argue their ambiguous instructions
in n400ins.pdf. It starts with all unnecessary documents for most peoples,
then refer details to "guide" which, my fault, I did not bother to check
further. And thought may be photos and documents are needed during
interview. Passport application for my son at post office fooled me, I thought
naturalization would be as simple as that.

      Regards,
      Mission

Received both "Receipt with Exception" and "Fingerprint Notification" today.

        Receipt with Exception:
Received date: 07/25/2007 Priority date: 07/25/2007 Notice date: 08/29/2007
The above application has been received by our office and is in process, but has been noted with one or more of the following exception(s):
Missing Evidence(s)-your application was missing evidence(s) that you will need to provide at the time of your naturalization interview. You will be notified under separate notice of the necessary evidence(s) that you will be required to bring to your interview. Do not submit any evidence(s) by mail.

        Fingerprint Notification:
Received date: 07/25/2007 Priority date: 07/25/2007 Notice date: 08/30/2007
Date and time of appointment: 09/18/2007

I really do not want to screw up the application further, but I'd really like to have fingerprint taken on Saturday(09/08/07 or 09/15/07), is it perfect OK for walk-in fingerprint without appointment? Your help is really appreciated.

                Receipt with Exception

I had my interview on the 12th of May. My receipt too had said "Receipt with Exception". And it was because they did not have my pictures. I had attached them to the form, some how they went missing. They told me to go to a business next door and get the pictures taken. And that was that. Just to be on the safe side, take the photos with you.
