  • Citizenship -- employment-based vs. family based

    Hi all:

I got my greencard more than 5 years ago. It was done by my wife's employers. So I guess that makes her greencard employment based and mine family based. How does that affect the citizenship process? Am I still considered "family-based" and she "employment-based"? And how does that affect processing times?

    Thanks. Amar

It makes your employment based as well. Because it was done under employment quota

For what it is worth, once you are eligible to apply for citizenship, it does not matter what the initial reason was for your greencard as long as it was legitimately done. Look at the timelines on the tracker, it shows it does not matter. You did not specify exact situation for your permanent residency, if your wife applied for you, then it becomes family based, if an employer did it, it becomes employment based-but it really does not matter.
