  • N-400 Question

    Hi,
Once the N-400 application is submitted is it essential that one has to stay within the country till the entire process is complete? If after submitting the N-400 application I have an offer for employment overseas or wish to take a long vacation will I be able to do that during the time that my N-400 application is being processed as long as I make sure that I get the fingerprinting done and attend the interview on the dates that they schedule them?
    Thanks

It is not necessary as long as you maintain continuous permanent resident status and other requirements of process as you mentioned.

It is a good idea to keep a note of the dates you left and returned to the US. You may find it helpful during the interview. Interviewing officer may ask you whether you left the country after applying for your citizenship. This is only to update your travel record. By the way, US does not register departure records for its permanent residents and citizens.
You should be fine so long you comply with the residency requirements.
