Citizenship question

I have permenantly resided (legally with a green card) in the United Sates for 29 years now and I am 56 years of age. I would like to become a citizen of the United States, but I have read that someone who has lived premenantly in the US and are over 55 years of age does not need to give a citizenship exam. I would like to know if this is true. Thank you.

Partly correct

This is an excerpt from the Naturalization Guide:

(b) If you are over 55 years old and have lived in the United States as
a Permanent Resident for periods totaling at least 15 years,

you do
not have to take the English test.

You do have to take the civics test in the language of your choice.

Thank you for the answer. Now second my mother's been in the states for 17 years and she's 82, does she need give both the english test and a civic test or she doesn't? Thanks.

you do not

have to take the English test, but you

do have to take a simpler version of the
civics test in the language of your choice.

unless if you show a disability supported by a US medical doctor and a required form filled for the same.

Now since your mother has been here for 17 years, which is less than 20, she'll have to give a civics test.

Trust me, this civics test is extremely easy and simple. One has to not know absolutely anything to fail this test!
