I just sent my wife's and my N-400 application to California Service Center. However, I used 1 envelope to mail both of them. Basically 2 bundles of 1 application, 2 photos, 1 check and 1 photo copy (front+back) of the green card. They are office-clipped at the top. Am I in trouble or is that okay? I have delivery confirmation slip for the envelope.

Two applications, two checks, one envelope
You can mail/courier/post all the applications in one envelope. However, you need to make separate checks for each applicant.
Since you attached one check for both the applications, wait and see what happens. If they cash the check, they may accept the apps, else they may return to you. Do let us know.
Actually, it'll be best for you to send all the applications in one envelope. If all goes well, both/all of you will get the FP appointments and interview calls for the same day/time.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for your reply - However, I think my post is a little confusing. I did not mail 1 check. I mailed 2 sets (1 for me, 1 for my wife). Each set has 1 check (675), 2 photos, 1 front + 1 back copy of the greencard and the N-400. Every set has an officeclip binding the documents together. I mailed 2 such sets in 1 envelope.
I will keep the group posted with the progress of the process. Thanks again!

Update: I-797s Received
Here is an update for you. I just received 2 I-797s in the mail (for me and my wife). Our receipt numbers are also next to each other. So I guess it was a good idea to send 2 applications in 1 envelope
However, on both our receipts it says "Receipt with Exception". I am not sure what evidence(s) are we missing. Is this something generic that they put on every notice? Please let me know.
The notice also says that we should expect 460 days to be notified for an interview.
I will let the board know when I get my fingerprint notice.
Applications Mailed : 11/13/2007 from Menlo Park, CA
Applications Received: 11/15/2007 at Laguna Niguel, CA

I-797s Received (with exception??): 12/07/07

Good
Good to know that the two apps in one envelope went through fine.
Your "Receipt with exception" usually has a note as posted below here.
The probable cause is that you may have missed some documents that they will request you to take with you during your interview.
===========Standard note for exception===================
The above application has been received by our office and is in process, but has been noted with one or more of the following exception(s):
Missing Evidence(s)-your application was missing evidence(s) that you will need to provide at the time of your naturalization interview. You will be notified under separate notice of the necessary evidence(s) that you will be required to bring to your interview. Do not submit any evidence(s) by mail.

Update : Got FP Notice..
Just checked my mail, and found 2 FP notices. Both are for the 29th January 08 at Oakland, same time. Should I expect same date/time for our interview as well, or is this a point where the path could fork?

Awesome ...
... you're going to be Americans very soon.
Be prepared for your passport applications.
If you're in the North East then your oath ceremony may most probably be on the same day as your interview and you'll get your naturalization certificate immediately. I am not sure of the process in CA, sorry.
If you want to apply for your US passports promptly, you can prepare the documentation, get the appointment at the appropriate USPS post office for the next day of your interview and you'll do good!
Take care.
