It's now official and USCIS has finally come out with it. The N400 applications will now take about 16-18 months to be processed !!!!

Where did you see the official notification from USCIS? Please let us all know the source.

Also, do note that even if this is the fact, it's always an estimate. Previously USCIS had a preprinted note that the process may take up to 365 days, but most got their USC much, much quicker.

Thanks - what can the affected person do about it ....?

If you're affected by the delays and other issues read below.

Find the time, energy and resources you can try to make a strong point of your problems with the US citizenship delays, despite the fact that they've increased the fees multi-fold.

Next year is the election year, they need your votes.

Write to your state's senator and to your local representative.

Then write to your local newspaper editors, start a blog.

Write to the President of the United States.

Imagine several thousand letters going to the press, the senator and to the US President, don't you think things will change?

Basically if you hit all the points and if more and more people start doing this, there's bound to be positive changes benefiting everybody.

HOWEVER, what happens is that all of us vent our anger towards someone or something else and once we get our work done, we forget about the whole thing.

Shouldn't they already care ???

Knowledgeable, your point is well taken.

However, shouldn't the local reps, senators and US President be already aware of the treatment being give to their potential future US citizens ?

And what is happening ?? USCIS is giving N400 applications the least priority on their processing list. It does not even bother them to write the statement on their website:

"In particular, naturalization applications filed after June 1, 2007 may take approximately 16 - 18 months to process"

Shouldn't the N400 applications be given the highest priority??

It's really a shame !!!!!

OK, they are very busy kind of makes sense. What I don't understand is it shows people who have recept #s of as late as April and May who claim to have received their oath etc. in November this year. Yet my receipt date was March of this year and now the VT web site says they are working on DEC. 22, 2007. Did the April and May, 2007 Receipt dates just get lucky and slip through? What kind of order are they being processed? Do they process one business day at a time or even slower? I.E. there are about 10 weeks between Dec 22, 2006 and my Receipt date....will it take 10 weeks before I get an interview date or 20 or 30 or less??????
