I had my citizenship interview, few weeks later I went back home and I got married. Then few months later I have done my ceremony.
Here is how we get married back home: it is 2 steps:
• The first one you need to appear with your fiancé in front of a religious person and then that person registers the marriage on a piece of paper.
• The second step is to take that paper written by the religious person to the government agent that makes the marriage official and the you get your marriage certification.
I have done the first step and then I came to the states to do my ceremony.
When you go to the ceremony there is a document with 5 questions you need to answer. One question says if you get married or not, I have answered NO, because my marriage was not official yet at that time, at that time I have not that official marriage certification.
Now I’m a us citizen. My fiancé followed up and has completed the second step and now I have the official marriage certificate that has marriage date which is before my ceremony date.
My questions are:
Now I’m planning to file for I-130 to get my wife here, will this scenario has any effect on my I-130 application? Will I have any problem?
The last question is: let’s say immigration agent says based on the above scenario you were married before you ceremony date, is that better for me? Or is it bad for me? If it was good how can I get the benefits and get my wife quicker here.
Thanks a lot.
