Hello,
I have a quick question regarding Naturalization and the N470.
I got my Green Card based on the "alien of extraordinary ability" category. The date on my green card is Dec 7, 2003. I understand that I can apply for citizenship on September 7, 2008. I started studying at the University of Pennsylvania in July 2006 and am currently a student. I graduate in May 2008.
Between Dec 07 2003 and now, I have traveled out of the country but never for a period greater than 5 months. During the summer of 2007, I was on training with a company, (headquartered in New York, with regional headquarters in London) but I was located in London for 5 months and that was my longest stay outside the US. This was on a UK work permit
I have a job offer from Lehman in London and would like to join them after I graduate. The start date is August 2008, but there will be a month of training in the US, so I will have to move to London only in September, perhaps right after I apply for citizenship. Will it be an issue that I am moving to London on a work permit after applying?
Since my siblings are all here, I can visit for vacation in Dec 2008, and potentially for a few days every 3 months. I will continue to maintain my bank accounts and stock/mutual fund investments in the US
I have heard that an N470 is helpful in this situation. What is it and should I be applying for it before I leave? Can I apply for the N470 now even though I only have to move to London in September? How long does the N470 process take and will you be able to help me with it. Are there any other issues I should be concerned about?
Thanks a lot
