  • N-400 problem

    Hi,

I found your site by accident and find it very informative. I would very much appreciate if you could tell me where I could find the answer to an N-400 question.

The situation is the following: I have been a green card holder since 1965. On the N-400 I need to list all trips I have taken outside the country since becoming a green card holder. In the seventies we lived in Belgium where my US citizen husband was transferred by his US employer. I can reconstruct those dates from old passports. The problem starts with our return in 1975. Between 1976 and now I took several trips to Canada but except for two am not sure of the dates or even the years. My husband passed away 11 years ago so I cannot ask him. None of these trips were longer than five days and all were simply vacation. At the time, all it took to cross the border was to show my green card so I have no passport stamps or anything else to go by. I am scared because I have no way of reconstructing the dates of a few trips and I do not want jeopardize getting my citizenship.

    Thank you very much

Just write whatever you remember. The government is just trying to see whether you have been really living in the US most of the times or not.

Thank you very much. This was driving me nuts. I actually called hotels that I remembered but they had all changed their computer systems and could no longer access old information.

One last question: In 1996 I got a speeding ticket in North Carolina which resulted in a $60 mail-in fee. I have heard and read various opinions, some say yes, some say no. Would you kindly give me your best suggestion?

Also, I did not pay attention when I searched, is this a contributory site, if so I will be glad to make a small contribution.

      Thanks again
