  • Having a coming citizenship interview with losing passport and green card

Hi there, I lost my passport and green card after the finger print process and my interview date is April 11th. I asked the staff who works in that finger print process about my case, and she told me I didn't even need my passport and green card for my interview, just need to explain. However, I'm still not sure if it will affects my citizenship interview or not. Can anyone tell me? I appreciate it.

    I took a risk!

For your own piece of mind, go to your local USCIS office and inform them about your situation. It truly depends on the immigration officer if he or she would ask to see your passport and greencard during the interview. Some do and some don't. Do you want to take that risk? Why wait till the last minute of the interview only to find that your app. will now be put on hold since you've lost both valid documents. Besides, you are required by law to surrender your greencard on the day you are to take the oath ceremony. By not notifying them asap may push you out further indefinitely not knowing when you'll hear form them next. You still have a week to be proactive. Inform them now if you can and follow their instructions. You will then have concrete evidence (receipt) to prove during your interview that you took immediate action. Good luck.
I took a risk for my interview. Actually the officer who interviewed me was nice to me. He asked me for both documents at the beginning, and I told him my situation. He just continued the interview and gave me a form N14 after interview. I just need to follow the instruction on N14 for solving my problem. There are 2 things to do; The first one is to get evidence of physical presence in the U.S., especially for the five years preceding my N-400 filing. The second thing is to obtain evidence of filing a Police Report for my lost articles. If other people have the situation like me, then just get those 2 evidence b4 going to your interview.
