  • Citizenship Interview

I have a Citizenship Interview set at the end of April 08. I came to the USA in June 1970 and obtained my Green Card in November 1972 thru a marriage to a US Citizen. I got divorced in 1973 and remarried to a woman from my country in 1974.

My question is do I need to be concerned about the first marriage at the Interview. It has been over 35 years since then. Would I be asked to explain my first marriage?

Depends on if the GC was a conditional one in 1972 and you had to remove conditions after 2 years of marriage.

Looks like that rule did not exist at that time. If the prior marriage was not a sham marriage just for obtaining a green card, I would say it is not a problem. Yes, be prepared to explain your first marriage as you could be asked about it.

Is you current wife a US Citizen?

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

There were no such conditions at that time. i.e. Conditional Green Card. I also heard that after 5 years the statute of limitations apply. Is it true?

My wife is not a Citizen. She has also applied for the Citizenship and waiting for her Interview date.

      Thanks,
