  • Can I work abroad while citizenship in process?

    Hello

I am planning to apply my citizenship this june 2008. Can I go to my country and work there for some employer, while my cistizenship process is still going ?
Of course I will stay there for less than 6 months. Can somebody question me here at the time of grantig citizenship that why I was out of country for 4-5 months while my process was in progress ?. Can they deny my citizenship for any reason related to this?

    Thanks

    S.Kumar

You can lose permanent residency if you go and work for some abroad employer. And you must maintain residency all throughout your citizenship application. Stay in the USA until you are granted citizenship.

Last query on stay/work abroad during citizenship process

      Hello

I called USCIS and they said that before or during the citizenship process, physical presence in US is nt required ( if you have already satisfy the residency stay period). If you are a indian citizen, can't you go for 4-5 months and work in india. At what stage question can arise ?. Have you seen a realtime experience. I would really appreciate of you can provide some more exact details.

      Thanks

        The question is ...

... whether you really want to take a risk after reading the advices from the esteemed personnel in this forum?

Well, say even if you personally don't come across anybody who's had serious issues in the subject matter, but what if you're the first one to be affected?

It's entirely up to you whether you want to take the risk or do you think that getting the much sought after United States citizenship is more important for you.

        Good luck and best regards.

          residency requirement

Actually I have posted similar question here and I have consulted several lawyers regarding this issue. It is weird so far I don't see a clear answer.
Let me ask this question in a more specific way:

          Condition:
1> I have already applied for citizenship a year ago, and I have not heard anything from USCIS yet.
2> At the time when I applied, I have satisfied all requirement such as 5 year of continuous residency after I got my green card.
3> Now I need to go abroad most time of the year.

          Question:
Is it OK to travel outside US most of time, and keep each trip shorter than 6 months? Fore example, if I take two 5 moth trips each year, and stay in US for 2 months in between, will I run into problems?

Gurus, please, please give me a clear answer (YES or NO) since this is critical for me. So far the USCIS website did not lay out a clear rule regarding my situation.
