hello,
I am filing N400 based on marriage. I and my spouse have never been married before to anyone. No annulled marriages either. this is a first marriage for both of us.
so what should be the answer to following questions in the N400 form in-
Part8- Information about your marital history
A. How many times have you been married(including annulled marriages)?
G. How many times has your current spouse been married
(including annulled marriages)?

Should I write - 0 (considering no marriage previous to the current one)
OR
Should I write - 1 (considering the current marriage as 1)

Sir / Madam,

In N400 form, it asks for the list of employers or list schools attended in the USA by the applicant. In my case, I attended Kaplan Classes for preparation of USMLE Exams. Does that count as school to be documented on the form. if not, should I mention it anyways?

US passport after Naturalization

Hi
I just wanted to ask how do we get US passport after naturalization. is issued to us automatically on or after oath ceremony OR do we have to apply for it separately, if so, within how many days?
Secondly, can we own a property, inherited or bought by ourselves in india if we decide to apply for dual citizenship. is there a time limit during which we need to apply for dual citizenship after naturalization?

You need to apply for the US Passport like you'd do the same in your home country.

For this the application is accepted even in some post offices in your area. You need to call up the said post office and make an appointment for the next day after your oath. Get the application form on-line fill it up, keep the photos ready and the money order also.

You may choose to apply expedited or ordinary depending upon your urgency to get the US passport.

Use advance search in this immihelp forum and you'll find a lot of valuable information.

If you already have property in your name, it remains so. If you need to buy property in future, you'll be treated like a foreign national and there will be some withholding and documentation required. Check with your CA in India or an international specialist CPA in the US.

Alternatively, you may get your OCI card from India and then be treated at par with NRIs.

You can apply for OCI anytime during your life time there is no deadline unless you're planning to go to India or purchase property or invest. If you're ever going to get OCI, it's best to do it immediately after you get your US Passport. OCI is for LIFETIME with no expiry, that will be better than to get a visa now to travel and then pay for OCI later on anyway.

IF, you're ...

... not planning to apply for your OCI and not leaving the country, you may never have to apply for and obtain the US passport.

The US passport is required for OCI application and if you want to travel abroad.

Think the same in India. Millions of people live in India who do not have Indian passport as they never leave the country.

I was just trying to make it easy by helping you plan in advance so you get your USP and OCI as soon as possible and then relax!

That way if you have to go to India or anywhere else, you need not worry about these important documents at the last minute.

Anything from 1 to 3 weeks ...

... there's an expedited process if you're in a hurry. It does cost more and the reason you'll give is that you need to travel to India and you can't even apply for the Indian visa unless you have the US passport.

I just wanted to know if a person owns an OCI for India, Do they have to pay taxes as well? for property/ business they already own or will own in future OR if they have or will invest in stocks in India?

need help? does someone know if there are any taxes involved in OCI /dual citizenship of India. Do we have to pay taxes if we own stock investments / property in India or pay yearly taxes even if we dont own all that?
