Withdrawing Citizenship Application???

I am thinking of applying for US citizenship and have two questions:

1. If my application is still in process, it it possible to withdraw the application at a later date? Reason I am asking this question is that I may have to go to India for an extended period after some time. If at that time, my application is still in process, I may have to think of withdrawing it.

2. Will withdrawing the application affect my future chances for naturalization?

Yes to both of your questions ...

... unless you provide a justifiable reason of why you had to withdraw or rather abandon the previous application.
