  • Last name change

Is it required to change to the married last name during citizenship if my husband and kids have a different last name and mine is a maiden name? My husband would also be taking citizenship and my kids are already citizens.

Another qn. is , is passport required during the interview? What if it is expired?

    Thanks!

      Family Name - dual citizenship

I got my greencard through my husband on a family basis. I still have my maiden last name and we have citizenship interview coming up.

If changing lastname to be same as my husband's is not required during citizenship interview, is it true that it is suggested to change the lastname for me to be same as my husband and kids to help not complicate any future processes like dual citizenship? I am hearing some people say it is recommended but no stronger reasons are available.

Can any one who had gone through this let me know where exactly it could be a issue if the last names are different? If it does not make any difference either way, please let me know. Thanks!

Different last names and expired passport are non issues. Name change *might* involve additional delay and you can do it after you become a citizen.

Btw, please don't post the same question in different threads. You are just wasting someone's time who tries to help others. Good luck!
