  • Mixed Message after Interview?

My wife and I went for the inteview at SF. The interview went smooth, however I am confused with the decision.

    On my N-652, it says:

[X] You Passed tests of English and US History and Government

[X] USCIS will send you a written decision about your application

A)[X] Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval.

The officer congratulated me, and asked me to bring my GC to the oath ceremony. He also put in a note on my file to try to schedule my wife's and my oath ceremony together (very nice of them!).

My wife's N652 however is same, except that she does not have a check on the "USCIS will send you a written decision about your application" box.

In theory all sounded and looked great, but now this difference is worrying me a little. Since I have the 'Congratulations..' box checked, I am assuming all is well and I should expect the oath letter. However, the 'USCIS will send you a written decision about your application' is what I do not understand. Any ideas?

The board has been really helpful all the way so far, and I'd appreciate any thoughts from the gurus or from someone in the same boat.

No need to worry. Did you by any chance request for a name change in Part 1 (d)? Even a slightest change of name from the original can throw you off from the regular ceremony queue. If this applies to you then your ceremony will be held in a court and courts usually process these types of apps. on a much smaller volume, usually like 50 to 100 apps. per month depending on area and pending cases. Compare both copies of your N400's originally sent to the USCIS. They usually check that box if they need to do further verification but that does not mean they will deny you. All in all there's probably one more step needed to clear your case, so take a deep breath and forget about the whole thing. You'll get your call when time comes. She may get her oath date sooner and if she does no need to panic.

There's one more thing, USCIS will soon be pressed by govt. to expedite all approved pending apps. before the November elections. Why, because they would want to get as many votes as they can from all citizens in this country. And this means the "to be citizens" will be pushed up as well. So, it's just a matter of a few more months.

      Thanks..!

Thanks for the quick reply - keeping my fingers crossed. Nowhere during the entire conversation did the officer mention anything negative, so I am just hoping for the best. I will keep the board posted with any updates.

      Thanks again!

Edited: Sorry to have missed your comment about comparing the N400s - no name change. Everything else is similar, even the speeding ticket part
