  • Newark, NJ: Interview, Oath, etc. Notes.

I had my interview on the 12th of May. Not too very complicated. Ran for about 20 mins. or so. Most of the time was spent on reviewing the application.

Both my, and my wife's receipt had said "Missing Evidence". It must be because of the missing photos. I had included them but somehow they got lost. So they told me to go to a business next door and get my pics done ($10.50). Other than that, no other info was asked. My advice: take a couple of pictures just in case.

I believe New Jersey is the only state where you can have the interview and the oath on the same day and walkout with the Certificate. That is what happened in my case. After the interview, I had about a 2 hour wait and then I had the oath and received my certificate.

The process was entirely pain free except for:

    1. It took too long. My appointment was for 1:40 pm. I was called in for the interview around 3:10 pm. My oath was at 5:40 pm (govt. workers working past 5:00, how novel is that!). My wife's interview was on the next day. Her appointment was for 8:30 am. Her interview was around 2:00 and her oath was at 5:00. We were told that an unusual number of folks were on vacation and hence the delays.

    2. There is a cafeteria on the ground floor. But you can't leave the waiting area on the 15th floor because you don't know when they are going to call your name. I had breakfast at 9:00 and nothing since then. I was bouncing off of the walls (I am a diabetic, low sugar makes me all jittery). I wish I had the sense to take a couple of granola bars with me.

    3. There are a couple of water coolers in the hallway but they both happened to be dead. So a bottle of water wouldn't hurt either.

By the way, there is a commercial parking place on Court St. (or Road) across from the federal building. It is about a 3-min walk. Costs a flat $10 for 3 hrs on up.

Enjoy guys. And if I can help any of you in any way, email me.
