  • US Passport Application- Question

    Hi All:

I am applying for my US passport after receving the "certificate of naturalization". My question is, do you have to send the original certificate along with the application? My concern is if it gets lost.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Regards

You have no choice. They only accept originals and "no" it will not get lost. Take an appointment at a local USCIS approved post office and send it via them. Your passport along with your certificate will be sent back to you via Fedex or equivalent mail carrier. Pay extra for expedited processing and shipping if you want it sooner. It's not a lot but you'll have a piece of mind since it will not be sitting on someone's desk for more than a week.

If it gets lost, which is very rare, go back to the same post office with your receipt and they'll track it for you with USCIS.

      Thanks ASM

Thanks for the post. I sure hope that they will not lose it. With all the hassles I have gone through to get to this point, I am very nervous about submitting the original...but as you said, I have no choice..
