    Hi Everyone..

My Green Card was issued on January of 2006. I was reading all the posts about Citizenship and i came to know that we have to register for Selective Services. I went to the selective services website sss.gov and it says those who are below the age of 26 have to apply.

I am 33 now, and my wife is 32. Need some help for the following questions.

    MY question's are:

    1) Can i register @ age 33.
    2) Can or Should my wife register @ age 32.
    3) When should i submit my application for Citizenship.
    4) Any other steps I should take right now.
    5) We had together around normal traffic (5) tickets (without DUI) from the time we have been in this country (from 2000), should i gather all that info and keep it ready.

    Please help.

    Thanks
    Ash

Women are not required to register.

You may not register after the age of 26.

You may not submit an application for citizenship until you have been a PR for 4 years and 9 months. There are strict limits about travel outside the US.

You need to read up on the process since you did not know how early you are eligible to file. Start with the USCIS website.

The general rule states that if you are a male and more than 26 years of age when you got your PR, you were not required to register. However, to be on the safe side, I got the Status Information Letter from SSA. Here is my post with the info on getting that:

However, they did not ask me for this letter during the interview, but I do know folks who were asked for the letter.

Regarding traffic tickets, my wife and I declared our speeding tickets (we had one each from the time we've been in the US) on the N400, even though mine was from 2002 or so. We also took the receipts showing fine paid and driving school attendence as documentation to the interview.

Getting the Selective Services Information Letter is something that you can do ahead of time.
