At this point there is not much you can do. FBI clearance could take several months or more. They might ask you to have your fingerprints taken again as this is the case most of the times. Each case is unique in it's own way and they have established guidelines set in place to process individual cases based on the information they have in their records. More time may be needed to cross check if information they need is not sufficient to clear the case. Don't bother going to an immigration attorney. All they can do is inquire on your behalf with USCIS. And the end result, you'll still have no answer at least for a while. USCIS will not request FBI to speed up the process unless you have an extreme emergency per USCIS standards (one of them being military). This is one place where the "case" freight train stops for a long time.

What you can do is address a letter explaining your case to the Director of immigration services at your local field office (do not mention your wife's case as it is separate from yours). Send the letter certified with return receipt requested and try to keep it concise. It is the same thing what an attorney would do except that you would save a few thousand dollars in service fees. Do not forget to state your receipt number on the letter from the last Notice of Action sent to you by the USCIS. A copy of the NOA attached with the letter will certainly help.

    Good Luck.
