  • Citizenship and tax return

I would love to get a suggestion about my tax return and citizenship, please.
Applying through marriage, and I have 2 years of joined tax return, and 2 years of married filled separately.

When you submit tax return, do you just submit yours or your spouse as well?!
Do they care only about person who applies for citizenship or about spouses tax return as well?!

My tax return is completely fine, filled right, but the problem is that my spouse filled as single for last two years. Can that effect me as applicant?!
Can I just send my tax return that is filled right (as married)?!

Well, there are two ways to become US citizen (just talking about family based). First, you are still married and you want to acquire US citizenship based on your 3-years of marriage. In this case, your joint tax return matters. However, if you are going to acquire citizenship after 5-years after you become PR (fact that you have been removed your conditional residency on GC after 2-years of marriage to US citizen spouse) then filling tax return jointly or separately does not matter as long as you maintain yours good moral characters.

Do you know what are they looking for: are they making sure that it is a legit marriage or just make sure you don't owe any money to anybody?
