  • ?Naturalization Interview: going alone + form 1722

    Hello,

My naturalization interview is next week and I applied based on my marriage with my wife (USC). Unfortunately she won't be able to go with me due to health reasons. Can this be a problem? Does she need to be with me inside the USCIS building and during the interview? The trip from our home to the USCIS office is quite long (4 hours of driving).

Also, when I called IRS asking for Form 1722, they told me that 4506 is the same thing, since they don't issue 1722 anymore. Can this become an issue during the interview?

    Thanks for the help!!

You can surely go alone ...

... your spouse's presence is not required for this interview to the best of my knowledge and understanding.

    Take care.

Thanks for the reply, knowledgeable. Any word about the 1722/4506 forms from IRS?

        I'm wondering ...

... why can't you use your 1040 copies that you submitted?

Anyway, yes you can use 4506 and there's a revision of this form as of January 2008.

        Take care.

Naturalization interview (green card through employment) at Garden City. March 2011

Dedicated to those people like me (anxious souls) who get easily scared reading experiences like the previous ones.

I was suppose to have the interview at 9.00 AM and I got there 8.15 AM. I didn’t bring my cell phone because I was told they would not allow it in. Big mistake! I was the only (cave) woman not carrying a cell phone. Everybody had one.
I went to the window #2 (1 floor) and the lady stamped day and time on the appointment letter and sent me upstairs (2 floor). The guard at the second floor took the appointment sheet and showed me the waiting room. He was friendly and said “ just relax and wait there”.
In the waiting room there were a few people (maybe 20 people) and after only 10 minute my name was called.
The officer introduced herself and we walked to a small room. She asked 6 questions taken from the INS booklet and I passed the civic test. The she made me read “Who is George Washington?”, made me write “People come to be free”.
She then switched to YES and NO questions (“have you even been a member of the communist party (NO), terrorist organization? (NO) prostitute? (NO)…basically she read here ad there page 6, 7, 8, 9 of the N-400. At the end of these questions she said “Congratulation you passed!”.
Done! The all process took 7-10 minutes the most!
I had carried with me a bunch of documentation (tax returns, tax transcript, birth certificate, utility bills, mortgage bills, expired passport, copy of the GC application, etc). She didn’t ask for anything of that sort.
I guess the take home message is: don’t be nervous, the process is usually very easy, fast, and painless, and just in a few cases (the one forums talk about) can be a little more complicated. People don’t complain (and you will never read it on forums) when the all process goes smooth.
Good luck to all of you.
