Interview - additional documents needed

Recd a letter , which reads

* after reviewing case, office has found additional documentation may be needed. Pleade don't MAIL, but bring to the interview.

* Bring your original OR certified copy birth certificate

* state-issued drivers license.

* Bring certified copies of birth-certificates for all children


Question:
1) What is "certified" copy of birth certificate. Is it notarized ?
2) will USCIS return the "originals".

I have also been asked to send certified copies of documents.
