  • Good News for N400 applicants

    Office: VSC
    Application Date: September 2006
    First Finger Print: October 2006
Second Finger Print (coz’ first expired): October 2008
    Interview Date: November 2008
    Status: Approved

But I have good news. I have heard from several people that these days the entire citizenship process, right from the application date to interview is taking only 3 to 4 months. My colleague filed his application in March 2008 was called for an interview on September 2008 and was approved.

I am relieved. My interview was at 8.40 am at Fairfax, VA. We went in at 8 am and sat for two hours. When we inquired we were told that they did not scan our interview notice. Once that was done we were called in 5 minutes. The interviewer was aware of this slip up and very apologetic and kind. I was done in 5 minutes. Oath ceremony was in the afternoon. I had taken all originals, but nothing was needed.

The approval process depends on local office

Yes, most N-400 applications are getting approved quicker but there are still some local field offices that take more than 12 months.

I unfortunately happen to be in one of those areas (Hartford, CT) where the USCIS website shows a 15 month approval process (currently processing July 2007!). Yet, I've heard of N-400 applications get approved through the hartford office in 11 months, despite the timeline on the website.

So check the processing times at your local USCIS field office (which handles the final approval) to get a sense of timing.

I have been pending for 17 months. None of the USCIS & my lawyer care. I've been to multiple InfoPass. I guess I'm just chosen to not be a citizen
