What happens when you get an American passport? At some point during oath or whenever, do you have to turn in the passport of native country?

Depending upon your native country you may have to turn the old passport in, have it cancelled or just keep it as a souvenir.

I do not know about law of other countries but for India by laws, you cannot hold two countries passport at the same time. People can do renunciation of Indian citizenship by filling form XVII after become US citizen after taking OATH. People can cancel their Indian passport either personally or by mail (simply they put CANCELLED stamp on passport and return cancelled passport to you).
