New year greetings to immihelp and readers.
I recently got my citizenship and wanted to share my experience.
Our (my wife and I) interview was on Nov 24 at 9:30AM at 1600 Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, PA. With all the traffic and parking we arrived at the office entrance at 9:20AM. We went through security check (like airport security scan) and were told to go to 6th floor.
We checked at the reception on the 6th floor, turned in our interview letters and the officer at the reception told us it takes about 2 hrs to get our turn. I wanted to go to bathroom and they were located only in 2nd and 3rd floors. When I was gone, an officer (male) called my name within 2 min. My wife told the officer that I went to bathroom in the 3rd floor and will be back soon. Officer said that he will check again in 10 min.
My experience:
Like he promised, he called my name in 10 min and walked me to his office cube. In the meantime my wife was asked to go and check in at the 2nd floor.
The officer asked to raise my right hand and sworn in for telling truth. He asked me for passport, id (driver license) and green card. Then he went through my application. He asked questions regarding my work, my wife, address, kids and travel outside the USA.
He then asked me if I wanted to take old or new test. I said old test. Below are some of the questions that I remember.
1. Who is the vice-president of the country?
2. What is the national anthem?
3. What is the constitution?
4. How many Senators in the Congress?
5. Who is the governor of PA?
6. What are the colors of the flag?
Then I was asked to write a simple sentence (“Today is a sunny day”) and read a sentence.
After this, he said that I passed English and history test and congratulated me. He also looked up on his computer for oath schedule for couple of minutes and said that he could not find one and it will be mailed in 2-3 weeks.
He gave the N-652 interview results and said that I am still a green card holder until I complete the oath. Entire interview was complete in 15-20 min.
My wife’s experience:
After completing my interview, I went to 2nd floor to see how my wife was doing. She was still waiting for her turn. A female officer called her in about 30 min.
The officer asked to raise right hand and sworn in for telling truth and asked for passport, id (driver license) and green card. Then she went through the application and asked questions regarding work, husband, address, kids, travel outside the USA, number of times married, number of times spouse married, traffic tickets (she had one and was asked to explain more about it), when did you come to the US, etc.
Then the officer handout a questionnaire, asked to fill out and left her office. Below were some of the questions (out of 10).
1. What are the colors of our flag?
2. What were the 13 original states of the US called before they were states?
3. Who is the governor of PA?
4. What is the name of the President’s official home?
5. What do we celebrate on the 4th of July?
6. What are the three branches of our government?
The officer checked in after 10 min and looked at the answers and said congratulations. She handed out N-652 interview results asked my wife to wait in the lobby for oath letter.
After 15 min the officer called my wife and gave her oath letter for oath ceremony on Dec 9, 2008.
Here is the interested stuff. When the officer gave my wife the oath letter, I showed the officer my interview results to her and told that I did not get the oath letter. The officer was very understanding, she took my N-652 interview results, went into her office and came back with my oath letter for the same day (Dec 9, 2008).
We came back to the same office (Philadelphia) on Dec 9 for oath. We applied for the US passport on the same day and just got our passport on Jan 7, 2009 and got our citizen certificates back to us from passport office on Jan 9, 2009.
Next thing is OCI…
