  • Citizenship interview in Dallas with a driver license from another state

    Hi all,

I moved to Texas from Tenn. two years ago. I'll have my citizenship interview in Dallas in three weeks. I know I need to present the government photo ID, in my case, a valid driver license from Tenn. Not sure I'll have any problem during the citizenship interview. I called USCIS. Most reps say I should have no problem. I actually want to get my Texas driver license but it takes two months to get one.

I was wondering if those who were recently interviewed in Dallas could share their experiences.

    Thanks in advance!

    David

    Apply for the drivers license

    Check this link out

Seems that most states give you a grace period of 30 days before you have to apply for a state license. By that measure looks like you are quite beyond the 30 day grace period. Not sure what that means but it could raise questions on your state residency status. I remember seeing (no guarantee this is accurate) somewhere that you have to have lived in a state for 3 months before you can apply to the service center servicing the state for immigration matters. Are Texas and Tenn. served by the same service center? Then that might not pose a problem.

2 Months for a drivers license!!! Dude I know the DMV is slow but not that slow I hope. You may want to check on that time line.

Anyway, here is the useful advice you have been patiently waiting for. Apply for the license, best case scenario you get the license and every thing is kosher if not at least you will have a receipt that you can show the interviewing officer and hopefully that will fly, should he raise this issue.

Good Luck. Some times I feel we (myself included) seem to sweat too much over these things. My current worry is that I am away on vacation the first week of Sept. and if my finger print appt might fall in that period. I know this is minor irritant compared to someone who is part way through the GC process and worried about her/his job but ....

      Thank you and good luck

Thanks for your sensible advice. Good luck with your fingerprinting. You'd better watch out for your mail because it took me only 11 days to receive fingerprinting appointment letter after I had received the initial correspondence.

        hi David,
14035 kleberg rd, dallas 75253 ..... at this location you can get a temp. licence with your photo on it, that might help, as its better then having another state licence, i was in the same situation of yours but i applied for my licence and i have my interview next week, i called the USCIS CS yesterday and she said that's okay as long as you two pieces of id such as passport from another country and green card will be enough. hope this will help you....Good luck to you.

          Thanks

          Hi Vanaja2000,

Good luck with your interview next week. Please share your experiences next week if you don't mind. I think your suggestion of a temp TX driver license without a photo makes sense.

            Hi Vanaja2000,

Do you mind sharing your experiences when you're done with the interview? I just got my temp TX driver license and would love to hear about your interview since we are in similar situations.

            Thanks.

            Good luck to your interview!
