  • Ancestor property

    Hi there,

Can someone shed some light into the legal rights that one would have once they become non-Indian citizen. I read that non-Indian citizens (who were Indian citizen by birth) can't purchase plantation property.

How would this rule impact the property inherited from grandfather through inheritance?

    Thanks.

    Inherited property is not affected.

Actually, what property you can or can not buy in India is affected by the residency status and not really citizenship status. Therefore, nothing is going to change when you become US citizen.
