original birth certificate and marriage certificate asked for child PP

I got my citizenship and wanted to apply for my child's Passport who was born in Inidia. When I went to post office with the form I-90, they told me to submit the original birth certificate of the child and parent's marriage certificate.

She told me I have to send both these originals and USCIS will return them in 4 to 6 weeks along witht the new Passport

I am really afraid to send the above originals, because I do not know how I can track it back in case USCIS doesn't return them

Can you please give me your advise?

why form 1-90? Thats the document to renew a Green card
You apply for a passport through department of state not uscis.

And Yes, the will require you to send the originals with the application which is sent back to you after processing your app for passport.

Take this from someone who had to go thru the same excercise just a few weeks ago, use another post office or a passport processing office. Preferably one that is in a big city. The small town PO employees can process routine pp apps, but are clueless to anything outside of that.

Go to the dept of state website for the form to apply for your child.

1. the child must have a valid GC which you will have to send along wiht the pp application
2. your wife and the child must go with you to the post office ( if your wife cant attend, she has to sign an affidavit - the form is also right there on that website)
3. you need to have an original birth paper for your child that is registered not more than a year after the birth.
4. take your original marriage certificate
5. take original natrualization certificate
6. two pics of your child

You will get the original docs back. if you have any questions feel free to post as I said, I did this recently and got two requests for additional evidence.

I went to Santa clara and Fremont Post offices they said the same.

Actually I got it done today, by giving the originals and they said it will be sent back by USCIS.

The following are the documents I submitted.

1. Child birth certificate original
2. Marriage certificate original
3. Father's Citizenship certificate original
4. Child Green card
5. personal check for $60 and $25

They said it will take 6 weeks for the Passport
But original documents will be sent back before the PP
