Citizenship for prior service and family currently serving

I am a prior service in both the Army Guard and Air Guard. I was in 5 years with honorable discharges. My oldest son is currently in the US Army in Hawaii. My greencard expired recently. The USCIS says I can apply for a citizenship through my prior serice....does anyone know where I can get info on whether I would actually qualify for this. I was in the USA for more than 10 years.

I would like to return to the USA as my younger son (USA born) wants to also join the service when leaving school.
