  • Divorcing while naturalization in process

Hi, I am going to applying for the naturalization in the Feb 2010 for 5-years green card holder.

Also I am divorcing with my EX (have separated for 2 years). I filled the N-400 marriage status as "divorce"(no separation choice), since my court day is scheduled on March, 10th 2010, so I think I will be divorced when I get naturalized.

The problem is they need a copy of my divorce certificate (as shown on the GUIDE), but I cannot give them until March, 2010.

My question is, can I apply naturalization in Feb, and send the copy of my divorce certificate as supplement in the March? Will this delay my process? OR it is better to apply in March, when I get divorced?

Thanks a lot for your help!!

If you apply now, Your choice should be married. You are married until you get your final divorce papers signed by a judge.

However, you will need to update that information about your divorce at the interview. You will then need your divorce certificate.

Since you are filling under the 5 yrs rule, i don't see that delaying the process.

    Good luck
