  • An Appointment Letter for N400, no interview scheduled

My wife and I applied for naturalization last January. My application proceeded fairly smoothly and I got my oath ceremony in September. However, my wife has been waiting for 16 months, and is outside the processing window of our field office (Hartford, CT). Two weeks ago, she filed a service request, and after less than a week, we received a letter stating that her application is still pending. A day or two afterwards, we received a letter from USCIS that instructs her to

"Please come to the office shown below at the time and place indicated in connection with an official matter."

The appointment is in less than a week (May 15). They have asked her to bring her GC and passport, and any other document related to the matter, which is oddly similar to the interview notice that I received last July. Our attorney thinks that there is no need to worry, and it is likely that this is indeed her interview notice. I wonder whether anybody has had a similar experience, to receive a notice like this prior to scheduling of his/her naturalization interview.

As for our background, we both came to the US on student visas, and have never violated any immigration laws/rules (e.g., by overstaying a visa). I got my GC through EB2-NIW and she was a dependent on that application. Therefore, we cannot think of anything that might cause her application to be denied.
