  • Naturalization process for 18 years children

    Hello Everyone,

I and my family are currently on green card and will become eligible for naturalization in about 6 months but my daugther will be 18yrs 2 months old at that time. Can I apply for her naturalization as a parent? If yes, what would be the process and if not, should my daughter apply for herself and how?

I did some research but I couldn't find any clear guidenlines for my situation.

Thanks for your time and appreciate any pointers that would help me to get some idea about where to start.

    regards
    Ravi

Your daughter is a GC holder too? Also qualify in 6 months? From what I read each individual should apply on their own.
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

Thanks for your response. Yes, my daughter is on GC and will qualify in 6 months. I updated my original post to reflect the same.

Only if you become a US citizen (i.e. take the oath) before your daughter turns 18 does she automatically become a US citizen as a permanent resident living with you. Since in this case you are not going to become a US citizen before she turns 18 (and in fact you won't even have applied for naturalization before she turns 18), she won't automatically become a US citizen. She can apply for naturalization by herself if she wants, once she turns 18 and has been a permanent resident for 5 years.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
