Hi,
I got my PR in 2006, but was out of the country (but making trips at least every 5 months) during 2013-2016. I am now planning on applying with the 5 year window of 2014 June to 2019 June. Two years of this window falls during the time I was out of the country, and I was using my mothers address in the country I was saying, for my tax filings. In hindsight, I should have used my brother's address in the US, which is where I was saying during my trips to the US. I was out of the country, trying to setup a tech company that was catering to the US market (the trips made were for attending conferences and meetings).
Given these circumstances, I have decided to get an immigration lawyer to handle my case. I had a few questions around this:
1) Is this (tax filing with foreign address) going to be a fatal mis-step by me, which will cause the case to get reject for sure?
2) If #1 is not the case, how will the lawyer help me in this case, other than the basics of filling the application form?
3) I spoke to a few lawyers I found on Yelp, and they were quoting $2-5k for handling my case, and they said they will not come with me for the interview. Is this price range reasonable?
4) Should I make sure that the lawyer comes with me to the interview?
Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks for all the help in advance!
