  • Move Abroad while in the Naturalization Process (post biometrics phase)

    Hi,
I am looking to move abroad while in the US Naturalization Process. My wife and I have had green cards for more than 8 years and our children are all US Citizens.
We started the US Naturalization process in May of 2019 and already did the biometrics in May (a few weeks after applying). The USCIS website says that our estimated date of completion is May 2020.

Can we move abroad now and come back every few months with my wife for 3-4 days and make sure to attend all future interviews? Or is it better to stay in the US and postpone our moving plans?

    Thanks

I'm late seeing this but you got no replies.

I would certainly check with a very experienced immigration attorney on that one.

If you said you wanted to go on vacation abroad.. that would not be a problem.

However.. when you say "move abroad" that sounds a little more permanent to me.

When you eventually get to the interview they will want to know if there are any changes since the date you filed the N400.

If your answer is... "Yes we sold our house in USA, emigrated to country XYZ, bought a home over there, got new jobs and just popped back to the USA for a few days"
My gut feel is that you are testing the extreme boundaries of how this process works.

I think you need to get the Law clear on that one before you make an irreversible decision.

Please let us know what the definitive answer is when you figure it out.
