I attended naturalization interview in Austin TX last week, passed the Civics and english tests, but was told that "USCIS will send me a written decision about my application".
I am a GC holder since 2005 and have maintained continous residence, paid taxes, and maintained all requirements for naturalization.
However in October 2006 I was arrested and charged with felony theft (shoplifting). As this was a first time offence, I was approved for diversion program (community service). I successfully completed it and my charges were dismissed. I do not have any other arrests or incidents.
Immigration officer went through my papers (I took the certified court order dismissing charges). At the end of the interview, he said my case will have to go through further review before they can make a decision.
What do you think my chances are for getting approved and getting an oath letter? If USCIS decides not to approve, am I allowed to file an appeal?
