  • Beginning an online n400 form then switching to mail form

I would prefer to file online but I am somewhat concerned about the process (e.g. upload of supporting files, plus the paper version allows some flexibility in entering information while online may have preset fields and settings which are harder to override). So I would like to start the n400 form online and, if I don't like the process, I will not submit the online form but rather switch to paper and submit the paper form. Is this ok or would it confuse Uscis?

If you do not hit the submit button I think you will be OK

However, please note that the website has certain features and capabilities that are ONLY available if you file online.
Once you file by mail, I think you are then stuck with fewer features for the entire case.

I have recently answered a couple of questions on the "experiences" area describing this.

One thing that you may find annoying is that you will (apparently) not be able to see PDF copies of letters that USCIS send you.
You will need to patiently wait for them to arrive in the mail. If USPS mess up and lose that mail.. you will not have an online copy to fall back on.

However, if you file online, you will see the PDF version of these letters several days BEFORE they arrive in your mailbox.

Thank you for your answer, N400questions, (also to my other question in another thread), I greatly appreciate it. Is there a way to see your other answers in the "experiences" area? I have tried to look for them but without success. Again, much appreciated!

I hope my answers were useful.

I think many of us are using this site in the wrong way. I think that questions and answers are better handled on this forum area.

The experiences area was probably intended to be for a summary of someone's total experience or story at the end of their journey.

I prefer the forum area because I can edit my responses and improve them as I think of more or better information.

It's not possible to edit responses on the experiences area which means I often end up posting a cascade of replies to try to get to my best total answer.
It starts to feel like rapid-fire spam.

Also, if I see a question that crops up time and time again.... I go to find my previous answer but the UI will not let me cut and paste it even if I can find it.
This means I either need to retype the SAME answer over and over... or simply ignore the repeat question.

All in all, I will soon stop looking at the experiences area because I don't think it's very useful for getting answers to commonly asked questions.

Good luck with your case. :-)

I finally found one of my previous responses relating to online versus mail. It wasn't easy to find!
