  • Spouse of US Citizen applying for Citizenship after 5 years of becoming Per. Resident

    Hello,

I am married to US citizen since 6 yrs and i have green card since last 5 years. Now, I am checking for documents to submit with N-400 and little confused. Its says that If I file after 5 yrs I just have to submit photocopies of PR card, Check and Photos. Now somewhere it says if I apply after 3 yrs based on marriage with US citizen then there is a long list of documents that i have to submit.

So, my question is as I am filing after 5 yrs do I still have to submit the other documents like tax returns, bank statements etc even though i am still married to US citizen or I can just submit Photocopies of PR card, Check and Photos??

    Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been married for 7 years and just recently filed my N-400 paperwork but I filed based upon my over 5 years of residency and I only submitted the pictures, check, copies of Green Card and the form.
I have recieved my receipt # and if they send me a letter asking for any other documents, I will provide them.
I think you'll be fine filing based on ur 5 years residency here. If you've been married to a US Citizen for only 3 years and haven't lived in this country for more than 3 years, then you will have to submit all the other documents they are asking for.

    Good luck
