  • Are kids allowed during an interview?

    Greetings!

My wife and I are scheduled for interview on the same day and time in less than a month. We have two kids (5 and 2 years) whom we would like to take with us. I am just wondering whether or not they are allowed to accompany either of us during the interview process. If not, can we take turn one after another for the interview? How long does it really take to complete the whole process. I would greatly appreciate learing your experience in a similar situation.

    Thanks in advance.

    It make the whole day.

It is best to make alternative arrangements for babysitting them somewhere else. Once you go through the process there, you will appreciate that you did that.

      Thanks

      Thanks for the insight.

How about finishing the whole process one person at a time so that the other person could watch the kids?

You can take your kids along. Interview time would be max 15-20 min and waiting time may be anywhere from 30min to 2hours. You will be called one by one and in case the there is an overlap, the kids can go in with the parent called in second. My suggestion would be to tell the office person there that you want a delay of say 30 min between the the two applications and they will help you out. I have seen the officers calling somebody and the person had gone to the rest room and they asked somebody else to go in instead. They then called original guy later.

            My experience -

My wife and I had the same time scheduled. We went with our daughter. I asked her to go in and put the letter in box. I didn't drop my letter nor I did not inform my case. I was little nervous what to do, even though passed 10 to 15 minutes of my scheduled time, the next moment my wife done with her interview, and then I drop my letter. That is it, interview completed.

If you have situation leaving your kid behind, take to the office and face it over there. I do not think officers neglect your situation or it does negative impact to your process. What I see, those officers understandable.

At the max interview is 30 minutes. Hope this helps!

My wife and my interview were also scheduled at the same time and we had our two kids, one 5 and other 4 months with us. We submitted the notice at the window on the same time and requested the window person to call us one after another as we've our kids with us. We're called in for interview one after another and we asked the IO and he said they did so as we had our kinds with us, all worked out very well. We were very nervous on what to do and finally we decided to take out kids with us and it was the right decision. We also saw several other people with their kids, infants and toddlers in the waiting area so it seems taking kids with you is not a problem for N-400 interviews. We were interviewed at the Ferderal Plaza building in NYC. I hope this feedback help others as we did a lot of search in forums about this topic but did not find a real case...so good luck guys...
