  • N 400 application submitted 5 months before my green card expiry.

    Hi all forum members,
I have a question regarding my Citizenship application. I submitted my N 400 application in Baltimore on October 2019 when my green card has months validity before it expires. My green card is expiring in March 2020. My bio metrics was done in November 2019 and now my application is being reviewed . Mu question is that Should I renew my green card or present expired green card during the interview which might probably be in Sept 2020?
If anyone in this forum has gone through this situation, please reply me with a solution.
    Thanks

So here is the situation: Your Green Card expires in March 2020,
The average processing time for N 400 processing in Baltimore is approximately 9 Your interview for the citizenship: 10 months.
In my view, you should renew your green card (which itself might take 3-4 months). Once again, this is based on common sense and not my knowledge of Immigration law.

Maybe you should ask yourself "What's my legal status in the US, with an expired green card?"
Maybe an immigration attorney or someone with knowledge of the law cam answer that question.

        Hi Canstar,
Thanks for your kind reply. I have been in a dilemma whether to renew green card or not with respect to money. Your reply made me think seriously .

I have one more clarification regarding my children under 18 years old. My kids' green card is expiring in March 2020. I am going to renew myself and my wife's green card. When both of us become citizens by the end of 2020, my kids will acquire citizenship automatically. My question is that " Is it ok to apply for my children's passport with their already expired green card ? I am asking this question thinking I could save some money .

Please guide me if anyone has an idea about this situation. I appreciate your help and time.
          Thanks.
