  • Interview receipt timeline - California

Hi Everyone - I had my fingerprinting (northern california) done on Apr 16th.. and I know getting the interview letter can sometimes take 5-8 weeks depending on how busy your USCIS center is.. but was just curious if there's anyone on here from California (or similar busy area like NY..?) who can give some feedback on how long it's taking nowadays to get the interview letter (assuming they don't need any additional information after the fingerprinting)..

    Thank you.

I went to the San Fran location for my fingerprinting and got my mail for the interview within 3 weeks so you probably won't be waiting too long.

Thanks Kodawg9 - can I ask, how long ago did you apply? I had my fingerprinting in Santa Rosa and I think my local service center will be sacramento so I'm trying to get an idea of the timeframe currently.. thanks.

        Bayareamom,

When you check your status online does it say Interview or does it still say RFE? this will be an indicator if your interview leter has been mailed out.

It does still say RFE with the original info and dates from the time my fingerprinting letter was sent out so no change.. I've been checking every day but the USCIS site finally locked me out 'temporarily' for accessing the system too much:-) I didn't realize checking every other day or so is too much for the system..lol..

I'm realistic and know it can take weeks.. I was just hoping that possibly there is someone else with similar timeline as I do who can give some input.. thanks.

Wow aammttbb - that is extremely fast.. I guess SF center is running more efficiently than Sacramento:-) Good luck at your interview. I think receiving an interview letter within one week of fingerprinting is not so common so you're quite lucky:-) Thanks for sharing

I'm actually still undergoing this process actually. Fingerprinting was done mid-February and received the letter for the interview 3 wks later, early in March. Unfortunately, I had to personally delay my interview once since, as a college student, I had final exams on my original interview date. But I did finish interview at a later date and literally within days, I got my letter for the oath ceremony.

To sum it up, everything's running very quickly with the SF office. I unfortunately am not done with the process because during the past two oath ceremony dates they gave me (5/12 and now 5/26), I've had horrible luck with midterms/finals falling on the days they've given me and I am attending college away from Norcal so that I can't make my oath.

But hopefully for you, the Sac center runs things as quickly as the SF one has for me! Good luck!

I just mailed back the original letter I received from USCIS along with a letter requesting for a new date, giving my reason why I can't make it, and then within a couple of wks, they send me another official letter with new dates.

At my interview, I actually talked to my interviewer about my situation since I knew that this issue could be a possibility for me and she told me that she's seen cases where college students had school-related stuff that got into the way of the naturalization process. She said try to make the scheduled date, for obvious reasons, but that if certain things like Final Exams get in the way, it could be rescheduled and the only thing I'd need to do is send back original form and the letter of explanation.
